Our Philosophy
Bhakti Yoga — Devotional Service
The philosophy of Krishna consciousness is based on the principle of bhakti-yoga, devotional service to the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna. According to the Bhagavad-gita, the highest form of spiritual practice is to love and serve Krishna with pure devotion.
The Four Regulative Principles
- No meat-eating — Ahimsa (non-violence) is central to Krishna consciousness. We consume only prasad (food offered to Krishna).
- No intoxication — The mind must be clear to practice spiritual life effectively.
- No illicit sex — Sex is only for procreation within marriage.
- No gambling — An honest livelihood is essential for spiritual progress.
The Maha Mantra
The chanting of the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra is the most powerful spiritual practice for this age (Kali-yuga):
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna ✦ Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama ✦ Rama Rama Hare Hare
This mantra directly connects the soul to the Supreme Lord. The chanting of this mantra cleanses the heart and awakens pure love of God.
